Install & Upgrade Problems

Upgrade to 10.11.18 on Debian 12

Upgrading MariaDB on Debian version 12 to version: 10.11.18-MariaDB-0+deb12u1 Debian 12 cases errors in journalctl. This section describes solution.

Compression Plugin error in journalctl

Correct it by reinstalling the plugins:

apt install --reinstall mariadb-plugin-provider-bzip2
apt install --reinstall mariadb-plugin-provider-lz4
apt install --reinstall mariadb-plugin-provider-lzma
apt install --reinstall mariadb-plugin-provider-lzo
apt install --reinstall mariadb-plugin-provider-snappy

Permission problem

/bin/sh: 1: cannot create /run/mysqld/wsrep-start-position: Permission denied

/lib/systemd/system/mariadb.socket —> started by —> sockets.target.wants before: systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service! Due to this the directory /run/mysqld is already created with root:root ownership

Due to this: /lib/systemd/system/mariadb.service breaks because it cannot write in /run/mysqld

Solution: add the following in mariadb.service:

ODG FIX

ExecStartPre=+/bin/sh -c “/usr/bin/chown mysql:mysql /run/mysqld”
